What are some things i have to worry about when i get braces ?

The biggest thing to worry about is whether your orthodontist will make you have your bicuspids (aka premolars) extracted to straighten your teeth. Many traditional orthodontists still do outdated and old treatment techniques that cause undesirable effects. Having bicuspids pulled will do the following: make the nose and chin more prominent and the mouth area sunken in (aka dished-in profile), make the upper back teeth not line up properly with the lower back teeth, make the mouth smaller than normal, make the lower jaw bite too far back, and has been shown to cause TMJ problems, especially in females. Google "TMJ Disorders" to see what you may be in for. Ask your orthodontist to treat you non extraction or using expansion instead of having perfectly good teeth pulled. If he/she refuses, then it would be in your best interest to find another orthodontist who will.
