JAA vs ICAO licenses?

I will start my frozen ATPL course after the summer ,now there are three academies that interest me the most , two of them are located in spain this are JAA , the other one is in BC it offers an ICAO license . i already started reading the ground school manuals and since this profession runs in the family for almost three generations , they advice me to take the ICAO course but im still not sure about it . if it were up to me i'd take an FAA course but the companies im interested in only take JAA and ICAO can anyone please tell me the difference between the two courses? please !
