Can I do the scaling procedure even if I don't have gum disease?

Hi I am getting my braces off in one month and when i smile my gums show. I don't really know what scaling is, but when i read about it it was only for those with gum disease. Am I able to have that procedure? Is there any other procedure that can help with my problem? Thanks
