Advice for hearing author writing a deaf character?

I'm not deaf and the only thing I have about research on deaf people is the show Switched at Birth. But I do have some advice, I realize that your character can read lips well, but try wearing ear plugs and walking around without being able to hear for a day or two. Try to see how hard it is to keep up with people when they talk and see how easy it is, and try to remain as close to your character as possible.
